Workshops - Mute and Ignore feature

Learn how to deal with annoying users in Arcade by using the Mute and Ignore Features.

GameSpy Arcade has a community of roughly 8 million users, all of different age groups.  It is clear that you aren't going to like all the users you come across, whether they decide to flood the lobby or hurl abusive comments at you or other users occupying the same lobby.  Arcade therefore provides tools, the Mute and Ignore features, so any user can "filter" out their chat.

The Mute Feature

This tool allows users to "mute" certain people in the lobby, as shown to the right.  Simply right-click on the user's name in the list, and select Mute this Player.  It's quick, simple, and effective!

This process can then be reversed by performing the same procedure used to mute them originally.  Note: Muted users will display a small gray icon beside their name, and any subsequent messages that user sends will not appear in the chat.

The Ignore Feature

As well as the Mute feature, GameSpy Arcade offers the Ignore feature, which is more powerful than the former, in the sense that it completely blocks any private messages that a targeted user sends you.  "Ignoring" someone on Arcade truly and completely prevents any contact between you and the blocked user.

There are  two ways to 'ignore' someone.  The first is by using the chat command /ignore, like:     /ignore NaughtyUser You should then see something like this in the lobby:

The second method requires you to go into Arcade's Options Menu (hit Ctrl+P in Arcade or go to GameSpy > Options.)  From here, click on the Ignore tab.  You can view all of the users that you currently have on 'Ignore'.  Under the Players in Current Chat Room box, you will find a list that shows all of the users in the same lobby that you are able to ignore. There is of course a button to add a user to your Ignore List, and another to Remove them from it.  This second method is often useful for managing large numbers of'Ignored' users, especially when the chat gets tedious.
